Northwestern Polytechnical University of China Students Visit Fordham

By Stevie Rosignol-Cortez

On January 24th 2019 International students from the Northwestern Polytechnical University in China visited Fordham University through the Institute of American Language and Culture (IALC). Part of their learning agenda was to visit the UN and learn more about its purpose and goals.

Before their UN visit, IALC organized a presentation for the group to learn about Fordham’s relationship with the UN.  Fordham has had association status with the UN Dept of Global Communications since 2012. Invited to the presentation was Fordham’s NGO youth reps at the UN: myself, Nora Wheelehan, and Kelly Roberts, Fordham’s primary NGO representative at the UN and Assistant Director of the Office for International Services at Fordham University. The students were interested in learning about Fordham’s NGO youth representative program and what Fordham does at the UN.

Kelly presented a powerpoint explaining the different branches of the United Nations and how Fordham works
with the UN’s Department of Global Communications. Nora and I presented about the wealth of opportunities students can get involved with by attending high level events and NGO briefings to learn about various topics, opportunities to host UN speakers on campus, access to attend the UN Global Communications NGO conference, and access to official UN documents/resources.

Students had the opportunity to ask all presenters questions about our UN experiences. We hope our presentation helped them understand Fordham’s relationship with the UN and that there time spent at the UN was hopefully an adventure that they will take with them back to their school in China!
Best of luck to the Northwestern Polytechnical University of China’s students from Fordham’s NGO Youth Representatives at the UN!
